It replaces: Polypropylene baby bottles. Polypropylene bottles released up to ~16 million microplastics per liter during standard hot formula prep — sterilization and shaking hot liquid multiplied it. Most bottles on the shelf are polypropylene.

WHY IT'S A YEP

  • Borosilicate glass shrugs off boiling water, sterilizers, and dishwashers — the hot path is glass, period
  • Drop-in swap: same Avent nipples and rings many families already use
  • ~$30 removes the single biggest infant exposure source identified to date

WHERE IT'S IMPERFECT

  • Heavier than plastic — younger self-feeders may struggle (silicone grip sleeves exist)
  • Glass + tile floor = occasional casualty; buy one spare
  • Nipples are silicone — far more heat-stable than PP, still a polymer; inspect and replace on schedule

Our take

If the entire site compressed to one purchase for new parents, this is it. The Nature Food bottle study is the most directly actionable finding in the microplastics literature — biggest measured release, smallest human, $30 fix. Evenflo and Dr. Brown’s make equally good glass bottles; we link the Avent because the nipple ecosystem makes switching frictionless. If you stay on plastic bottles, at minimum use the cool-then-pour protocol in the baby guide.
