What the research can tell us
A community pilot installed washing-machine filters in 97 households and documented lint capture. The captured material included nonplastic matter. Changes in wastewater before and after installation are useful field evidence, but they are not a randomized estimate of the filter’s effect alone. Check these before choosing a device

Start without replacing your wardrobe
Use your clothing’s care label and machine instructions. Choose a manageable wash routine for hygiene and garment care. Repair clothes you want to keep, and compare construction and durability when you actually need something new.
If you add a capture device, follow its handling and disposal instructions. Do not assume that collecting visible lint has measured your personal exposure.
What we would skip
Skip a device with an impressive percentage but no test conditions. Skip an accessory that you cannot install or maintain. An inexpensive product that does not fit your routine is still an unnecessary purchase.
